I bought this english elm at a meeting auction for a very good price.
This is the current front.

I am thinking of making this the new front next spring and also changing the angle. This tilts the trunk slightly towards the viewer and the trunk has an anti clockwise spiral on the initial 4 branches.

Because i felt the apex was just running away to the right i have modified this.
My main question is that i feel that one of the 2 lower branches on the left needs to go . I have a preference which to keep and will probably not remove until the tree is growing well next year but would be interested in yr views folks.

It’s a young, elegant tree, Id remove the lower branch which is longer and is below horizontal, while the others are a bit more up n out.

I think the lower branch is better placed . Its hard to tell from the pictures but the next one up looks like its near the inside of the bend and wants to be a trunk . I'd be tempted to cut just above the third branch and lose the apex .

Both the 1st and second are on the outside of the bend. The first I think is in the better placed . The 2nd comes out more towards the front and has ramification closer in but is just above the bend.

For now I would keep them both but shorten the lower one quite a bit and the one above it a little.

Thanks roger. Personally I prefer keeping the lower branch as it is on the apex of the bend. I need it to back bud a bit to get finer branches closer to the trunk. If the 2 branches were spread around the trunk I would keep both but the 2nd branch is directly above on the same vertical plane. Nothing is desperate at this stage and the extra branch may help with the tree fattening up a bit over the next few years
