Oh dear, how unfortunate. Someone was telling me today that they have rats in the walls and loft and between floorboards. Their only option is to put poison down to kill them and let them rot in the cavities. And put up with the smell til it goes away... It's not even an old house it's a new build. Shocking really, nasty little buggers

Just been out in hope to catch the culprit in the act. And oh surprise! What do I see nibbling my young wisteria... woodlice!!!

Not the first time I see those creatures but first time I see them doing any damage. Any suggestions how I get ride of them?

It might be worth doing some more research. My understanding is that woodlice consume dead stuff not live material. They are natures cleaner-uppers not destroyers. I might be wrong but that's always been my understanding.

Here is what I found
A woodlice feed mainly on decaying plant material, but they can also damage seedlings, bedding plants, peas, beans and carrots, for example, and soft tissues, such as cucumber plants, strawberry fruits and tomatoes. They usually prefer to enlarge wounds already inflicted by slugs, wireworms or other pests, in potatoes and bulbs, for example. Their mouthparts aren’t strong enough to deal with undamaged bulbs and tubers.

Looking at that damage I suspect yr culprit has 4 legs. Are you near the rivers in oxford.?

Well... Like many of us, it seems that everywhere I look there is a river or a lake that wasn't there a week ago...

But no, no rivers. What are you thinking?

Well water voles will nibble on roots and shoots etc. The back of my garden has a brook running through it and yesterday I found what is probably a rat hole near the sleepers at the back. I know it's a rat and not a vole as he was smiling at me on my wildlife camera trap. Just looking on the internet it appears that peppermint oil is a good deterrent as they hate the smell. Have 3 dogs so will not go near poison. Ordered the oil this morning.
Good hunting

I emptied the whole greenhouse in hope to find it behind pots or bags of soil. No successes there. Not even a hole dug under the frame. Mystery.
The other mystery is HOW MANY bonsai pots I seem to have!
