those elms drop their leaves at the slightest hint of a change of environment.it takes nothing to start them off, , so just keep the faith and the chances are very good that it'll make a full recovery.i have dozens of them i have taken from cuttings, they make ideal trees to give as gifts to non bonsai people who express an interest, and the majority report back within a week or two that they are turning yellow and dropping leaves, and my advice is always the same, hang in there, and give it time, it'll recover.

Hi guys.
So I'm watering it around every 4 days or so. As it is under an Led light, how long should I be running the light cycle for?

I have a 5 indoor bonsai, all ficus. 3 of these as they are not in a South facing window position and have artificial light to help them grow. Each light is of 6500 Kelvin. I run mine for around 10 hours a day. I've had some of these ficus in the same position for almost a year and each are doing very well.

I also keep a few Chinese elm, however mine are outside, this time of year they are dropping their leaves, so as others say hang in there, it could just be due to a temperature change and the tree going into a state of dormancy.

Can you leave it outside? If you don't have a window sill inside your room do you have one outside? You can safely leave it outside as long as it is securely tied down and won't blow off. That way, if it snows, you will have a gorgeous bonsai snow sculpture to look out on.

ANd it will get plenty of much needed light.

BTW where are you located. I am pretty sure if you go to a local bonsai club with your tree someone will tell you if you need a new pot or soil. And sell you a pot for cheap if not just give you one. As well as the soil. That's what would happen if you visited my local club. Everyone has an unwanted cheap clay pot that mallsai come in. A couple of handfuls of cat litter and some mesh and wire and you're away. Im in Kent - if you were nearby I'd happily do that for a beginner.
