I currently have a Hornbeam, Yew, and Lonicera lifted from the ground and in plastic pots, would there be any advantages to pitting them in pond baskets?

If not then when would you decide to use a basket?

I cant see much of an issue if the pots are big enough, i bought a few pond baskets this year, round ones, and only now putting trees into them, apparently they air prune the roots to promote better root development. So far my baby 18 month old larch is in one, on top of a CD to maintain a flat root plane, i also have a small deshojo maple in a pond pot, and there they shall stay for a couple of years at least.

If the trees you have are small enough, i see no problem really!

Is a good idea. Better than just a bigger pot.

I have used pond baskets for at least 5 years now and they are brilliant at developing a fine fibrous root system.

Can't get pond baskets bigger than abt 20cm here. But yes I see good sense in using it.

In your climate it’s probably not a bad thing, the trees in baskets require more watering - I couldn’t keep up in summer if I didn’t work from home
