Cotoneaster are good I have several of them, there are several different species with differing leaf size.

It's more what you can see in the tree and it's progression over the next few years, as well as the size and shape you want from the tree.

When you get it, sit down with it for some hours and really look at how you want to progress.......... before you start working on it.

The general use shears are good, keep them clean and they will work well for you

Thank goodness for that. (Cotoneaster) It's only small and cheap but I can see a little potential in it.
I live about 20 miles outside Belfast.
I have heard a lot of good reports about the Greenwoods shears so I thought "I might as well"
I will probably use them predominately for rootwork rather than use my good Stainless Steel shears.

I will be joining the NI Bonsai Club as soon as things get a little more back to normal. I've already spoken to Phil.

Going back to the original point I think the others have been right about JWP. Personally I love them - there's just something about the foliage that looks beautiful. I bought one as a nursery tree 5 years ago and apart for the initial first potting I didn't really touch it much for 3 years. I've done more in the last 2 years and it's strong and growing well for a white pine, but still many years away from showable quality, if ever. You either need to get one when experienced or with so many other trees that you can leave it alone for the most part. Cotoneaster is a good tree for practising skills on.
