Hi, just a bit of fun during this pandemic, but when you're talking to your other half and you find that you steer them back to the bonsai subject.
My husband loves my tress but sometimes I feel that my only topic of conversation is the next tree or branch extension!
However it balances out as I have to listen to his fishing obsession....with interest :32crazy:
Is it only me ?????
I can now post a tree picture thanks to Daryl if it helps inspire your answers to this post :

Hahaha my wife won't hear anything about bonsai, she walks out the room when the subject gets onto bonsai. Luckily my daughter is also a bonsai fan, so I don't have to talk to myself about it lol

I guess you'll find most people here are as obsessed or more than you...

...but it doesn't have to be negative if you think that you're passionate rather than obsessed

The best part with my wife on this subject, is as she's not hugely into bonsai, she tends to see the good in each tree rather than the bad. When I spend a few hours styling and show her the results, she always says "that's really nice" or "that's beautiful" which is always a confidence boost. She never mentions poor or reverse taper, uneven foliage density, poor nebari or anything like that. Sadly the more you get into something, the more of a perfectionist you can become and overly critical of your own work.

My husband has very gradually started to be interested in a rather vague, peripheral sort of way and recently persuaded me to buy keep something that I was going to give away, so that is now 'his' tree.

His passion is geology so, when we go for walks, I walk along going 'ooh, look at the amazing bark on that tree' and 'I wonder if I could just dig up that sapling?' and he walks along next to me going on about rocks and strata and schizt bla, bla, bla. We don’t thake much notice of each other, just enjoy the walk

Tomorrow I have been invited by the chair of the Northern Ireland Bonsai Society to his house to view his collection, have a chat and keep my interest alive whilst the club is not in session...Cant wait

I do a bit of running, and on one of the groups that I use was this quote - obsessed is a word that the lazy use to describe the dedicated.

My partner has far more appreciation now for my bonsai than originally. The only problem now is she likes certain trees and has taken some form of virtual ownership so when she sees me taking a tree off to the workshop she questions what my intentions are with HER tree.??
