Hello,
Has anyone air layered an oak tree before? Can the main trunk be layered and what would be best time of year to do?

Many thanks for the info. Look good. So you layered the main trunk and it took you two seasons?

And when you found callouses the first time did you cut them away and start again or just wrapped moss around them?

I cut the bottom edge of the callus and rewrapped with sphagnum.

I started an oak air layer 2 years ago and had a similar experience- I checked and it had started rooting after 12 months but I found there were slugs eating away the young roots and it then partly callused so I re cut it and applied more rooting hormone . At the end of year 2 I checked again and there were healthy roots. You just need to be patient!

I started the air layer in late May when the first flush of leaves had fully emerged.
