Two pots. One was a Tony Remington that had a really nice hornbeam in it.  20210307_170843 by BrendanR2012, on FlickrHappily the tree is OK. The other was a biggish pot that probably cost about £45 from memory at a boot fair. I had actually moved the trees around to ensure they were sheltered from the wind. But the gusts that took these two must have been massive. Heigh ho. |

I bought a number of luggage bungie cord straps when Lidl or Aldi when they were selling them off cheap. At the sign of any winds they go over my bigger pots and attach either to the stand or clip together. They are soft enough so as not to damage the ceramic pot. Once you have lost a pot to the wind you make sure that it doesn't happen again. Dan Barton is including extra holes in his bigger pots when he makes them so that restraining wires can be used. I was lucky and didn't suffer any damage this time, Had some casualties in the past though, I live at the top of a hill in Sheffield, It gets a bit bad here sometimes!! This deep pot got broken a couple of years ago during high winds, Didn't have another so I stuck it back together with cyano and filled a bit that was missing with epoxy Milliput!  I got another pot for it and was going to repot it this year but forgot!  John

Sorry to hear about your pots buddy, I suppose Bonsai enthusiasts run the gauntlet when it comes to high winds. Vecro straps are what folks are using over here...just chipping in (pardon the pun) another angle on a solution. |

Thats a shame about your pots Brendan, that wind was harsh!...at least the trees were okay tho! Stone glue works well on ceramic pots, i broke one over 2 years ago and repaired it with Tetrion stone fill, its still going strong after a couple winters. |

It worked on mine Brendan but it's a small pot, I have a big one to glue together, I'll be using araldite for that one though and Blu Tak to ensure it doesn't drop!! It was my clumsy fault throwing large garden waste bags over the gate, I dragged a 4"x2" timber over!  It got broken in to two once when I was making something and dropped an 8"x2" plank on it!!, I plan of using a diamond rotary tool to make a cleft along the cracks and do some imitation Kintsugi with gold enamel paint!  The Tufa rock Zelkova planting is in a 60cm deeper rectangular pot at the moment, I've finally moved the dangerous timbers! (After the fact!!)  John
