I have a Beech tree whip which I extracted from a roadside source. It's pretty tall around 18 inches. The first branches are fairly high up and a tad leggy to be honest. I'm prepared to let it grow and thicken up over the years to come. Is there anything I can do to achieve lower branching or will it take an air layer procedure at a later stage I will post some images later today. Regards C |

I think you can put it in the ground to thicken then every few years cut as low as you like, grow a new leader, and repeat until you have the desired thickness and height. I think a beech with regrow from below any cut. |

I think beech can be used for hedging, like hornbeam, and if so there is hope for back-budding. You just need the patience. J. |
