I’m not sure, Brendan. The top part is still very much alive although further into its autumn colours than the bottom half. I last looked a couple of months ago and there were plenty of knobbly bits around the cut but I don’t know if they were callouses or emerging roots.
I’ll go and have another look and post a photo later.

Well, the knobbly bit was much bigger than I expected so I decided to cut the layer off and have planted it in gritty mix and put it one of my propagators for the winter. Fingers crossed.

I put this in a fb group and have been advised that it is all callous caused by the layer being too wet and that I shouldn’t have separated it. Oh well, we live and learn. ::dunno:
