Hi,
I have two 20 year old plus larches and they were moved by some builders from a full daylight position in early September to a shelf in full shade.
Watering and rain has been as per usual but last week both of them crisped up their needles and began to shed them.
I have placed them back out in the open and kept the watering and misting to normal.
Will they survive? Most of the needles are coming off on the smaller one whereas one or 2 branches are fully green and healthy on the other...
Thoughts please as to what to do
Bill

Just a case of waiting for next spring to see if they wake up.

Might just be a protective system by the tree to help itself, it will lose them soon anyway. As Jay says, keep them protected and watered and fingers crossed until next year. Just moving them into shade shouldn't affect them.

I have had some dieback on one of my Larches last year. The only thing I can think of, apart from some strange unknown fungus, is that some of my trees still have some multi-purpose compost in the mix.
Since they went peat-free it has become nasty stuff and congeals around the roots forming an unbreathable sloppy mess. I have also had poor growth from some other trees in the same mix.

I never had any trouble with the old, peat based stuff.
