Hi there, I'm writing here regarding care advises of my bonsai tree. I took this bonsai form one girl which didn't took a proper care of it for almost one year, as I see tree has been never trained it wasn't watered properly (it was watered very rarely with lot of water) and it hasn't got enough day light. I just repotted it on 17th of March with compost mix of pumice, pine bark and moler also bought bonsai food called "bonsai focus" (could some please explain meaning of NPK?). Roots was kinda dry in my opinion some of them was even dead. Here is the album of my bonsai tree http://martynasbaltrusaitis.imgur.com/3Q116#ozhMh. Since I repotted my tree I water it every day with 50ml of water and I'll give bonsai food once a week as it says on instruction. Can someone please give my any professional advises what I should/n't do with this tree. How should i water it, and what else to do to make it grow back to normal(if its still possible) what to do with those broken lop? leave it or cut it with proper scissors. P.S. all the materials and things I chose to do with it was based on common sense and information on internet I'm not professional and I never did it before but I decided to take care of this tree and I want to do whats the best for it. Regards, Martin. |

Thanks for your message. On bottle of bonsai food they say that NPK is 2.0 : 0.7 : 3.9 so is it any good for my tree? By the way. I forgot to mention that I don't have any idea about it's age but I think this tree is called "Ginseng Ficus" and my tree is far from reality after I saw video on youtube how this kind of trees should look like. |

I just read your article and as I understand I should not fertilize my plant with that food for at least one month? because I just re-potted it few days ago |

feed when you start to see new growth(around 3-4 weeks in general, ay be quicker) shouldnt water a specific amount really. water when needed as much as needed as a rule (from my exp) keep soil moist and you cant go wrong. i agree with the tree being a ficus based on leaves and trunk (also very hardy trees whic can take a battering) finally the npk ratio seems very low alround nitrogen helps growth one helps flowering not sure on other though so if you want growth higher N but for now i would stick to something balanced 10:10:10 |

Honestly, those white marks on the leaves look as if they could be limescale deposits from very hard water. Try wiping them off very gently with a small piece of cotton wool soaked in water with a few drops of vinegar in it. If the white comes off, it's limescale - not harmful, just unsightly. Half an hour with the vinegary cotton wool should get rid of it all. If the white doesn't come off when you do that, then it's something else and I pass! J. |

im not talking about dirt from water mate. There is some white dots growing into new leaves structure and its not wipe-able indeed. So what I do is just keep removing leaves with those dots till I figure out something else. |

Hi everyone. I'm back with recent update of my bonsai tree. http://imgur.com/a/amm9p#0 please check out the link to see how far I've got with it in 3 years. Situation is definitely getting better but my concern now is what to do next? otherwise if I just let it grow it soon enough it will become shapeless bush. At the moment im feeding it with 4:6:6 fertiliser. What would be the next step? Could anybody advice me please? Shall I cut some branches already or what is the right time to do it? Would it be better if I would bring it to some nursery instead? If so would you recommend anyone in London? cheers guys Martin. |

That has changed such a lot since we last saw it. I would now cut the two high branches off at the places where I have drawn lines. Attachment: Ficus.jpg There will be a white milky substance bleeding from the cuts. This is latex and quite natural. If it doesn't stop bleeding during the day, dab the cut ends with water and it will quickly stop. |
