I've just arrived back from Greenwoods Bonsai nursery and I've just bought a bag of horticultural moler clay (biosorb) 40 litres for a tenner, so all those who like to use cat litter and live close enough may want to go an check it out. It's exactly the same stuff as cat litter but has no chemicals or additives - that's got to be better for your trees. I'm going to mix it with akadama at a ratio of 50:50. I've never used this stuff before so I'll let you know how it goes! Just a query, but has anyone ever used this stuff neat? Lee |

That seems a good price. Often wish I leaved neare Greenwoods. Either that or they should open a branch over here

Lee Several people here (including me) use 100% Sophisticat Pink - your Biosorb without the perfume. I only discovered a local source of it here in The Netherlands last year and so I don't use it 100% pure with all trees (yet). I have seen no negative impact at all to using it neat vs cut with other things. I feel it dries out pretty quick in the summer so I usually mix it with Akadama and quartz grit: 3 parts cat, 1-2 part akadama 2 parts grit  Plus I have a fair bit of quartz grit to use up still and a couple of big bags of akadama. The moler cat litter is even cheaper here - I'm paying €5/25L at the garden centre/pet store. |

I've just brought 30 litres of S/P for £8.99. I've spent the afternoon washing out the perfume. Now i have to leave it out to dry by the radiator and get my ear chewed off for the next 2days ( i'll move it soon darling).... Then the bit i really enjoy i have to sieve it. And i always feel hard done by when the ratio of smaller particals is greater than the larger particals. And normaly its the larger i need most. So £10 for 40ltr is pretty good. Shame the postage would be so high else and have some off of Greenwoods too. No discount for forum members i take it

I use it 100% neat I generally don't bother to wash it sieve it or anything else For top dressing I sometimes leave some exposed to the elements for a bit before using but it dulls down pretty quick anyway I read somewhere that the perfume helps get rid of green fly but I have never noticed any difference. Occasionally after repotting you will get some white residue up the trunk and on the pots. This does go away after a fashion :) If your showing your trees you will likely top the medium with moss anyway. I spotted quite a few at the scottish show last year who were using it so its gaining popularity |
