Keith Hansell wrote: Over the past year there has been plenty of talk regarding exposed roots and forest/group planting. I came across this tonight which shows both, with some exceptionally large bonsai, especially at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOi8-DLMIVs Love it and something to think about with my Koi pond ......... one day |

https://youtu.be/MpBn8vcp2ko Please keep calm when you view this, but I'd like to hear peoples views on the bungling technique used with the saw. |

I realise people have varying views on Peter's techniques but his achievements show what he can do. I think with bonsai there are certain tasks where you need to take great care but with this root ball which is just a mass of fine roots using the saw on 4 corners of the rootball is a quick and effective use of time to achieve the required result. I have seen several japanese videos where they take a saw and remove a 1/2 inch layer of roots from the base and then a 1/2 inch ring around the outside then put back in the pot with just a small layer of soil beneath and around the outside. You just need to take the care and time appropriate to each task. |
