I bought this one during the winter. The seller couldn't remember the name but claimed it had yellow flowers (of which there has been no sign...). Anyway, the leaves are out now so if anyone has a clue what it is - feel free to chip in. It's NOT Privet. ![]() DSC05055 by jeremy_norbury, on Flickr ![]() DSC05052 by jeremy_norbury, on Flickr ![]() DSC05050 by jeremy_norbury, on Flickr |

Here are some pics of my Stewartia. Attachment: CRW_7787A.jpg Attachment: CRW_7786A.jpg Same growth habit slightly different colour, trunk colour is same, I think it is Stewartia. |

the structure looks a lot like hackberry (celtis) leafs dont look as furry as stewartia - although its close other option is a cornus - one way to tell - take a leaf, pull it gently apart from tip to tip, as you split it - the veins will stay intact like thread - if so it a cornus, onlt they do this and ive tested it on a few recently |

I've got Celtis/Hackberry - and it's not like those. I'll try the leaf trick and see what happens. |

In the first close up picture it looks quite like my small pink (Korean?) lilac - but not 100% In the second one it looks more like immature growth on a bay tree. Are the leaves a bit leathery or are they soft? Why are you so sure it is not privet? (sorry - have edited this 4 times now as I keep having second thoughts |

The leaves are very soft and delicate, relatively large too... Why do I know it's not Privet? Because I know a privet when I see one - this doesn't have the bark of a privet, nor the growth habit, nor the leaf size... I doubt it's a bay tree - I thought they were evergreens... |
