Post subject:  17yr old Oak (grape like problems) ??????
Hi Guys i was in my garden this afternoon when i decided to turn my trees and feed and generally potter around and to my amazment i found some what i can only describe as Grape like things on some of my Oak Trees leaves has any one any idea what they are? and what i should do? i have no idea if they should be there or not please advise??? thanks

Are they insect galls? If so, unsightly but harmless. Slice one open and check if there's anyone in. J.

My brother in law suffered with something similar, by all accounts it's not very pleasant.

They are commonly called oak apples. Made by wasps.
Remove them. they will not kill your tree but use up energy.

As said, made by a wasp. Sometimes they are a lovely salmon pink. I think the correct name is a 'gall'. No harm to your oak, Will. Remove them if you like.

I remember reading about Oak that it is the most heavily pest -ridden species of tree in the UK, supporting more insect life than any other. IIRC over 300 species make it their home.

I wonder if it's because it's one of our original trees and insects have just evolved beside them? Im just taking a wild Arab in the dark like, but it makes sense. To me atleast hahahaaa
