Howdy all, I'm trying to identify a tree, it has a dark bark, oval shaped leaves [ opposite one another on the branch ] and yellow flowers. I'm sorry for the bad quality of the images, they were taken from my phone. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I've managed to cut two branches today : ![]() I was hoping to make cuttings out of them, but the stems are hollow, even where the branches are coming out. I might have taken it from a too young branch, cause the main trunk and other thicker branches are solid wood from what I can see. Any idea what it might be anyone? |

The problem is, Xavier, that this might well be a tree entirely native to Mauritius. If the young shoots are hollow, then it doesn't sound like a Northern Hemisphere tree. The leaves look a little like eucalyptus, but that may only be because it is native to a warm climate. I'll have a look on the internet and see if anything looks like it. |

Xavier - can you get a close-up of the flower, so we can see clearly inside, and count the petals (and sepals, if there are any - it doesn't look on the face of it as though there are.) J. |

Paul - no, I'm not going to Bristol tomorrow. Thought about it, but what with the cost of petrol and a red hawthorn to pay for it ended up on the cutting floor. Judith Davison (Midland Bonsai) and I are going to the Newport Show at the end of August and staying over the weekend. |

Thanks for the feed backs, It seems to be some "Senna bicapsularis" or "Cassia bicapsularis". Common names include Rambling Senna (formerly "cassia"), Christmas Bush, Money Bush, and Yellow Candlewood. |
