I have two branches about pencil thick on my garden apple tree and wondered whether it would be best to air layer them or treat them as cuttings? ![]() Untitled by woop oli, on Flickr It's the newest five pictures to me photo stream. Also I have removed the flowers/blossoms from one would it be best to do this to the other aswell? |

It may not be possible by either way, as most garden apple cultivars are grafted. I would think layering is most likely to succeed. |

Malus is very unpredictable as a cutting, the toriki is the surest. Take the best parts as toriki. But if you got twigs to spare, try cuttings at different times of the year. |

Took 3 cuttings, one hard wood, one medium and or last years growth. See how they do then decide for next year what to do with the ones I want. The hardwood one is Nice though so good if it survives. They are in perlite so should be ok. |
