When i come to chop my air layer i believe Arihato recommends removing the moss before planting yet on bonsai4me he suggests packing it with more moss before planting. Which is the better of the two ways? |

I guess Mr A would say his way is best and Mr H would say his is best. Personally, I would not pick every little strand of moss off, but neither would I add more. I would just take off any that comes away easily without damaging the precious new roots and then plant it as it is. You could do two - one of each method - and decide for yourself which is best. |

Don I really don't know. People have success with all kind of methods. All I can tell you is what I do. This is my logic , when you look at water roots, cuttings made to root in water, they are different from roots in soil. The plant with water roots has a set back when planted into soil, so my logic tells me to avoid that from happening. So I use soil to airlayer in and avoid water roots all together. But Bonsai is a game where every question has dozens of right answers, that's why the heated discussions... Do what feels natural for you |

ive always left the moss on untouched and theres less chance of the roots breaking then adding akadama/kyodama mix around the moss and the roots soon find there way through it |
