hello Since my last past re the Hornbeam sapling some of the fine tracery twiggy branches have gone brown at the tips and the buds have produced only very small leaves The tree seems very reluctant to bud...Is it dying in your opinions ? To keep it out of the Jubilee cold and gloom I have moved it inside and kept watering it .... Any help gratefully received Bill |

A picture would help what kind of soil is tree in, but the tree should be outdoors in semi shade or with a bit of shelter but outside not indoors. |

Yes, Hornbeam are outdoor trees, and keeping indoors may make it worse. If there is no obvious cause of ill health, it is often down to roots. If the tree was recently re potted, it could affect it, but the main cause I have found of poor performance is poor soil and bad drainage. Sometimes, however, trees have a poor year and then take off the next. |
