Gary Jones wrote: IMO your best bet would be to get someone experienced to work alongside you to get the best first style out of this tree. A good hand will make a lovely tree of this I'm sure. Ideally, I see that as the best route as well. Rather than make ill informed decisions I'd like to be guided by someone that has experience that I can learn from be mentored by. As I mentioned in my first post, getting some assistance from some one local would be awesome. I'm also concerned that I don't have the 'vision' to look at it and decide how what I want to be the end result and therefore what the starting point needs to be. I'd happily pay petrol money, provide endless cups of tea etc. if anyone with experience fancies taking up the challenge? |

Deano wrote: Welcome I've done a series of posts on my blog about Squamata junipers(which yours looks like either squamata or procumbens). I see no reason due to the very similar growth habits of both why you couldn't apply the same techniques. If it is Squamata, there's very little information on the web about them, so you should find the links below useful - it's detailed pruning and styling advice. http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01 ... ng-of.html http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01 ... ednow.html http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03 ... i-pt3.html http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03 ... -pt-4.html http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05 ... -pt-5.html http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06 ... lding.html http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06 ... a-pt7.html http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06 ... -pt7b.html Thanks! I'll take the time to read through them all. |

That's a very promising piece of Juniper, Monkey. I'd say it was 'Blue Alps', very similar to Squamata Meyeri, but faster growing. Because its such a good piece of material, I would say it only really needs a bit of a trim and a jolly good wiring. If you are nervous, then please get help, but I would also encourage you to have a go. Careful not to take too much off though. Junipers like this can be worked at this time and should be pushing new growth before the end of the season. Looking forward to seeing this tree progress. Nice Ash aswell. Not the easiest species to Bonsai, but a nice tree there. |

Matt, if you have 2 trees then you have the bonsai bug Try your local club, you are only about 1/2 hours away and then you may find others from your area. Here is a link, zoom into your area and click on a dot for information. it looks like Milton Keynes may be your closest http://swindon-bonsai.co.uk/2013/06/10/ ... societies/ |

He hasn't been on the forum since last July so your helpful efforts may be in vain. |
