Hi
My name is Colin and I reside in Northern Ireland.
My main interest is in tropical fish breeding. and at one time I had over 100 tanks in my purpose-built shed but that has decreased over the years and I live a more sedate pace now in my garden with a small upcycled Japanese themed pond (tractor tyre).
It is true I have murdered a couple of Chinese Elms in the past through ignorance. But now I'm willing to give it a proper go. The main aim is to accentuate the pond in some way via a nice display (maybe 4-5 trees of varying stature and shape)
Again I have started with the usual possibly boring (to bonsai aficionados) Chinese Elm.
I have no tools etc just yet and will adapt to that as time passes. I have been reading and researching for many months now as I get prepared for my new arrival next week. It's not the best tree on the planet just the normal "S shape trunk) but I plan to use it as a learning tree before progressing again I'll probably be boring you with a lot of questions in my thirst for knowledge.
My posts still need approval so I'll sign off now and come back with some initial pics and typical newbie questions later
Thanks for having me
Regards
C

Hi Colin. Welcome to weetrees. All questions, comments and pictures welcome. Chinese elms aren't boring - they're wonderful trees.

I've already made initial contact and will be joining when things are up and running again.
Thank you for drawing attention to joining your local society. As an aquarist this is the one most important thing any hobbyist should do. The wealth of freely-given information in these places is unmeasurable
