I'm wondering what people use for watering shohin. The fine rosed, long handled watering can I have is great for larger trees (with larger substrate particle size), but I use that on my smaller trees, the force of the water is too great and washes away the substrate. Does anyone have any recommendations for a smaller, finer, watering can that won't wash anything away? |

try fitting the nozzle head 180 degrees the other way so that it fires the water upwards as it leaves the nozzle...then as it falls it replicates rain. IE fit it exactly the same position / way up as in the pic below.

hi mark i use a pump up spray or dunk them in a bucket of water for a few seconds as they can dry out quickly and wont absorb water if dry on the surface |

I find the bottle toppers very handy for one or two indoor plants or seedlings in the g'house but they are too slow for watering trees effectively. I prefer the upturned rose approach for freshly repotted trees but as soon as the tree has bedded in I go back to a small plastic watering can with no rose and just control the flow rate by careful tipping. If you put the spout close to the surface but only tip it slightly you can direct the right amount of water at the right pressure exactly where you want it. |

I'm like daryl over this, using a small one handed can to water all my bonsai, dipping into my aged water container as necessary. The amount of water can be controlled and things may be added to the can for specific purposes. This also guarantees individual attention to the trees' needs, rather than assuming that one treatment is good for all. |

im somewhat surprised by this, i didnt realise most folk use a watering can....since you all have gardens why not just use a hose with a fine spray nozzle attached, surely this would be easier and quicker? i bought this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00H ... ge_o03_s00 ![]() its small and great for patios and balcony gardening as easily attaches to kitchen mixer tap and it has different settings, it has a fine spray setting which is perfect for drenching the bonsai pots without disturbing the soil. but i only use it once in a while, but if i had a garden i'd just leave it attached to an outdoor water tap for quick use. |
