:120ranting: :120ranting: :120ranting: I've just arrived home after work to find all my newly potted trees all re-dug by I can only presume a magpie as there have been no squirrel sightings since I sorted the problem last year has any one got any tips to eliminate this annoying problem besides standing there with the air riffle :smallthumb:

I use old greenhouse shading cut into lengths, stops the birds digging and also chuckin off any moss. I wrap it round the pot and either peg it down with wire or use a pebble to stop the wind blowing it off. It also helps to tuck it under the pot!!

I also managed to get some scaffolding netting, its like a plastic material so won't rot....... but it is a bit bright green. Still as long as it works

Heartbreaking! I've had a couple of tree overturned and knocked off the bench, but I thought it had been done by a neigbour's cat. I've not seen any squirrels around for a while. Maybe a sonic animal scarer would work./

Gutted Will.
I don't suppose it was that Tomlinson bloke who buried some time-bombs under the new medium.
I hope that no lasting damage has been done and can only suggest covering the pots with chicken wire for the immediate future.
The air rifle idea could work but it would be costly of your valuable time. We have lots of magpies here but they do very little damage compared to the Squirrels, foxes and badgers.

im building a dedicated bonsai area - imagine an aviary, with a solid clear roof (irrigation system for water) and benches. its lockable, 3mm steel wire mesh all round (under roof too so no access through that), and steel/oak door, cat/bird/squirrel and hopefully most potential thieves proof, also, can work in any weather

edit - sound a little over the top on second read :07hysterical:

Birds are a constant pest for me too mate - I use greenhouse shading cut to size and some wire offcuts as pegs. The downside of this is that it tends to create moss under it so needs to be cleaned. Green meshcarrot bags (get them from the grocers for free are also good)

Not at all - send in a pic when you get it done.... I dream of a bird free bonsai garden!

Sonic animal scarers don't work for birds apparently as for the netting idea its all about the aesthetic look??? any one had any luck with those windmill type things we had as children :07hysterical: or maybe a scarecrow ??? thanks for the advice so far :smallthumb:
