Has anyone tried this bonsai app http://andrewnicolle.com/all_apps/bonsaialbum ?

Last time I tried one it was very poor quality and I soon gave up but I've just seen this one and it looks as if it might be better. Anyone tried it?

That looks usable Daryl. I won't be using it but we know that the demand is there from previous trials.

I had an early version of this and was poor, this looks better but the 6 quid price is off putting. Can get ms office for that!

I'd recommend just using evernote.

https://evernote.com/?var=c

It's not a dedicated bonsai record app, more of a multi-purpose notepad app that works across tablets, PC's, and smart phones. We used it at uni for some light project management tasks, I since adapted it to bonsai purposes (among many others), attaching sourced care guide links specific to each species, progression photos uploads, styling ideas, and work I've carried out on the trees to date etc. Proven to be really useful so far, and since it's not restricted to IOS only I can pull up the care guides while working on the trees via my tablet/phone, or add any useful web/video links while browsing on the PC. It also comes with it's own snipping tools, and a few other handy things for embedding videos. Worth checking out, I've not used any dedicated bonsai apps, so I can't offer a direct comparison, but it's served my purposes well so far :smallthumb:

That's interesting Quirkus. I tried evernote when I first got my ipad a few years ago and never really got the point of it. No real need for it at the time so I abandoned it. I never thought to use it for bonsai information. I still have the app so maybe I'll go and take another look.
Thanks for the suggestion :smallthumb:

I wouldn't have used it either, so I can't blame you. It was only when a lecturer at uni pointed out that it's good for keeping reminders, and and jotting down project notes that I started seeing it's worth. Since then I use it for all sorts: lists of links/research relating to a broad range of topics, business management purposes, art project notes/research, and obviously bonsai record keeping. A plus is that you can share notebooks with other people as well, so for group projects it's pretty handy.

Do you have the paid version, Quirkus? I've just tried the free one and ran out of allowance after just adding a few photos.

Strange I have the free version, and never had that happen. Apologies Daryl, maybe they've changed their basic package from when I signed up? ::dunno:

Scratch that, I've just had a quick look at my account settings. Apparently there's a monthly cap which I wasn't aware of.

I've never hit the cap by the look of things... No idea how, I use it all the time.

If you wish to continue, then try linking images from an image hosting site rather than uploading like we do on Weetrees, you could also separate the info across a few notes/notebooks inside a notebook stack if it's hitting the 25mb cap. You've either hit the 25mb cap on a note, or the 60mb cap for the 15 days. I really am sorry, if I'd known about the limiy I would have mentioned it beforehand :132doh:

Daryl, if you have an iPad or any other current IOS device (or Mac) then the Notes app on there has the same basic functionality as Evernote without some of the additional bells and whistles. I used to use Evernote very heavily (work and home) but have moved away from it as it became more bloated with features that I didn't need and basically got in my way. I now use Notes for everything I used to do in Evernote (I don't need group collaboration). It also gives you cross-platform usability as you can access your notes through a web browser via your iCloud account.

Hey Quirkus, absolutely no need to apologise. I am more than happy to get suggestions about other options and willing to try them out :-) I think I'll stick with the app though because one of the things I was hoping to avoid was using a photo hosting site. It just adds another process which I would like to avoid. With the app I can take pictures as I go on my phone and transfer them straight in.

Tom, thanks for the suggestion but I am still using an old ipad running on ios 6 so my notes app is a very basic note pad - no option for photos or even changing the font size, underlining, italics or anything else. I also don't use icloud but I'm sure your suggestion will be of use to those who are a bit more up to date than me :smallthumb:
