I normally walk by this messy corner of the allotment without paying much mind, but i had a good look at this tree today and i think its actually Birch? i previously thought it was some type of prunus or something not worthy of bonsai. but isnt this how Birch bark looks when young? ![]() ![]() ![]() smaller one beside it ![]() This is a tall birch in the garden beside ![]() If its Birch i may chop them all low and dig one of them up next season? |

I'd say Cherry is a good call. Birch buds are more pointy, eventually forming the slender catkins https://granthamecology.files.wordpress ... -birch.jpg http://newfs.s3.amazonaws.com/taxon-ima ... atal-b.jpg http://www.aphotoflora.com/images/betul ... -02-06.jpg Cherry are more round, and bulbous so they can flower outward http://www.bomengids.nl/winter/Zoete_ke ... g_0545.jpg https://pixabay.com/static/uploads/phot ... 60_720.jpg http://www.lovethatimage.com/blog/wp-co ... e-1850.jpg Both have exfoliating bark and form tiger strips to varying degrees as well, depending on the species. Odds are on this being a cherry though. |

P. avium is the bird plum or gean. I was thinking along the lines of P. cerasus or corticosa. |

Cheers Stymie, i wouldnt have a clue, ill take some pics when its in full leaf. i remember them being quite large and unintresting. it must be a native cherry and the cerasus and avium are both native to europe. |
