I like it too. I'd build a tree based on that interesting long right hand branch. Pretty much remove everything else. 2018-05-30_12-24-11 by BrendanR2012, on Flickr |

Oh that's an interesting idea. You don't think it's too long and thin? I guess I could just take my time and air layer bits off the plant, like that long branch and other interesting bits, and have a dense clump left if the base survives? |

The branch has taper and movement. The length is what makes it interesting. You will have a unique and beautiful azalea bonsai. I would try it. The hard part will be getting a suitable pot in time. Maybe that leads off in the same direction as the branch, maybe a slate? But for now layer off anything you like apart from that branch and see what it looks like? No risk in that? |

Thanks. I guess I need to work out what bits I want to prioritise keeping. I'm terrible at making decisions! |

Your avatar doesn't say where you are. A local club would help. People are always willing to take cutters to other's trees! |

Oh, it used to!! Probably this GPDR nonsense! I'm in Sutton, Surrey. I know the Sutton club is mean to be good, but not sure if clubs are right for me really. |

Maybe take it to Windybanks and have a chat with them - can't be more than 10 minutes from you? |

Yeah, about 10-15 minutes. Can you just turn up with a tree though? I'd feel like I should be buying something! I have bought from them before (7 trees, across 4 visits), and I think they recognised me last time, although I don't know how, I'm sure I've been served by different people on each visit! |
