I found exactly the same on one of my junipers today, and we have a pear tree in our new garden - albeit 30-40m away from where the junipers are! Another job to add to my list :) |

Juniper- pear rust disease alternates between the two hosts and the fungal spores are airborne. Widespread in Europe,it has become much more common in recent years here in UK possibly due to all the plants imported from Europe and climate change. See info from RHS website- https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=236 |

Thanks for the information guys. It's one of my favourite trees. I feel a bit gutted. |

Sorry to hear this. I've just binned my biggest juniper after fighting this for three years. It basically boils down to the pear tree needing to go. |

It killed one of my junipers, too. But I think the pear tree that hosted the spores has now been removed. My other junis are all fine. It is hard to beat this without either getting the tree away from the pear tree, or vice versa. After treatment now I'd suggest giving it to a non-bonsai friend to look after for 2 seasons. |
