Hi all I bought this a couple of years ago (From a friend!) at the Donny Bonsai Bootsale and recently I noticed what looks like new growth bursting out all over the trunk, The little clusters seem furry and soft, I have a niggly feeling that it's some kind of fungal growth but hopefully it's just back budding! Cheers, John |

Could it be moss? I’ve had moss appear from nowhere on a trunk looking a bit like that. |

Looks like back budding to me. Did you feed well last year? Fungus is usually brown jelly in appearance. |

Hi Daryl, I wondered if it was moss but it seems to be growing from the truck rather than on it, It's breaking out all over!! Jay, I thought it may be some other fungal infection rather than the orange slimey Pear rust, I don't really feed my trees a hell of a lot (Probably why they look rubbish!!) but as it turned out I only bought it in september last year so it could be my mate fed it well, I'll be seeing him on monday so i'll ask Cheers |

Nah, my vote is still with moss. Might be proved wrong though |

I mistook moss for rust once - it's easily done. Just leave it and observe and it's true identity will be revealed in due course as it grows. |

Well done Daryl!! It turned out that this was some kind of moss!!, When I tested how well it was affixed to the tree, It came away easily!! John |
