Hi All

With this crazy winter we've had being so mild initially and now the frost setting in. My Hackberry started popping it's buds and now the colder weather has obviously killed these off.

Will new buds now take there place over the remaining winter weeks or does this create an issue this coming spring.

The tree is healthy in all other respects. Spring in the branches, no rot or anything like that.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It's really a matter of waiting to see how the tree responds.

If the frost wasn't too bad and just hit the buds you'll probably be okay but the growth will be weaker this year.

If the frost was fairly hard you could lose some smaller branches.

I had a flowering cherry that got hit last year and it suffered a few lost branches and the growth was very poor all year.

Fingers crossed your tree will be okay.

No it wasn't a hard frost, I hope it's just the buds effected. Thank you for you're response. Much appreciated

Sorry for a follow up on this all. I was due to repot this tree this season. Probably in need of it, but due to its weakened state should I leave it this year?
