I have seen alot of new members recently and quite a few who give their location as London (its a big place ::dunno: ) Many of you may not know that we have a members map, set up by Jimothy, where you can have a flag showing your approximate location. Its a useful way to see if there is anyone near you with a view to getting together, sharing local information or maybe lift sharing to shows and club meetings. See below for Jimothy's original information then get in touch with him via a PM to get your pin on the map.

OK, I've set up a map as a test run, and you can see it (and my own lonely entry) here.

The map will only be available to view through this link, so shouldn't attract the attention of just anyone, but my intention is still to make the placemarkers deliberately vague so that people's exact locations can't be identified.

I could have set it up so that you could add your own locations, but to do this I had to allow anyone to edit any part of the map, which might get a bit chaotic, so for the time being I'll add locations and information myself.

If anyone is willing to participate, can you please send me a PM with your USERNAME in the subject heading (this will be used by others to idenify you on the forum) and the following information in the message text:

Name:
Location: (Including the first part of your postcode, which I'll use to generate the pointers)
Number of trees:
Skill level: (Beginner, Improver, Enthusiast, Expert, etc.)

Obviously, participation is entirely voluntary, and I will remove anyone who wishes to be removed at any time, but I would urge all members to consider adding themselves to my list, as you all stand to make friends and help others move forward in our fascinating hobby, but if you don't get involved nobody benefits at all.

However, I would add that people should use their discretion when arranging to meet up or invite others to their homes. I would suggest that you only make these sort of arrangements via pm or email (to prevent your details from being publicly viewable), and only with those people you consider to be trusted members of our community. Commmon sense precautions (like making sure someone else is at home, and verifying people's identities), are also advised.

I think this is a very old thread and an idea that has long since been confined to history.
